Animalium is a shelter that began not as a project, but as a desire to help. It all started with a few rescued animals and people who simply couldn’t turn a blind eye. Over time, it has become a place where work is carried out every day—quietly, but with great importance.
We started in 2018 with a small plot of land and a few enclosures. Back then, we had neither experience nor resources—only the realization that these animals had nowhere else to go. The first few months were the hardest, but they were the ones that shaped the shelter into what it is today.
Every year, the number of animals grew, and with it, so did our responsibility. In 2021, we expanded the shelter, built new enclosures, and began taking in hundreds of animals each year. That was the moment when it became clear that this was no longer just about providing assistance, but had evolved into a fully-fledged system.
Over the past 7 years, more than 1,200 animals have passed through Animalium. Many of them have already found homes, while some are still waiting. But one thing they all have in common is something they didn’t have before: a chance.
Today, there are about 150 animals at the shelter. We provide them with care, safety, and the time they need to learn to trust people again. Here, they don’t just live—they’re gradually returning to a normal life.
